I put mousse in Rebekah's hair to make the curls look like curls instead of fuzz. I also put two ponytails in. She looked so cute! I love having a little girl so that I can do her hair.

Brigham and Rebekah love their Daddy so much they try to climb the gate to our bedroom while he's working on homework so that they can be with him. Do you see Brigham's foot? He's getting close!
Rebekah has found the bathroom drawer and is getting into Mommy's hair dryer.

First bath in their new home. Luckily it went well. If there's one thing this Mommy isn't experienced in when it comes to taking care of children, it's bath time. (I never bathed my child care children.) They loved the bath, though!

Last night was their first night in our home. That didn't go as well as everything has been going, especially for Brigham. Rebekah fell asleep fairly quickly around 8:30. SHe slept until about 2:00 and then was up for a while (Seems she was a little scared.) We finally got her back to sleep around 3:30am and she slept until 7:00. So, that wasn't too bad for a first night in a strange place. These children have been sleeping in their foster parents' bed at night, and our caseworker told us they couldn't sleep with us. So, they are going to have a hard time transitioning into a new home with new parents and having to sleep alone. Brigham was rocked to sleep by about 8:45 but, when we laid him in bed he woke up. He was scared and wouldn't sleep. At 9:40 I just climbed into his twin bed with him and he fell asleep pretty quick. But, he woke up again at midnight. I finally got him back to sleep at 1:45 and he slept until about 3:30. So, as you can see, I played tag team most of the night. Since the children were up at different times. Timothy helped get Rebekah to sleep after I had tried for 45 minutes, so I got a little rest. I was also able to sleep a bit between 4:00 and 6:00. Although it wasn't very deep as Brigham was tossing and turning the whole time. Needless to say, Timothy and I are very tired. But, we'll get used to it. We just hope we can get the children to sleep better before the baby joins our family!
We found out that Baby Hyrum will be joining us sooner than we thought. He's going to start visits with us next week and on February 10th is his adoption committee. We will be the only family at the committee, so unless the committee has a major problem with us, he'll be ours. He will probably move in permanently between the 10th - 12th. His caseworker and attorney want him settled in our home before the trial on February 25th. This is the trial where they will hopefully be terminating the birth parents' parental rights for all three children.

So sweet children! We'll pray that they sleep better and get used to that soon!
ReplyDeleteYou bring tears to my eyes, Jessica. How absolutely wonderful this is. I bet you are just in 7th Heaven. I love reading your posts and hearing you refer to yourself as "Mommy". How cool is that!??!
ReplyDeleteI love Rebekah's curls and can't wait to meet them.
I also love hearing you and Timothy being called Mommy and Daddy. Henry had a habit of coming into our bed at night, every night. At his 3-year doctor's appointment, I brought this up with the doctor, and she encouraged me to do a fun role play with him during the day along the lines of - everyone in our family sleeps in their own bed at night. What can you do if you wake up at night and want to come to Mommy's bed? He cried the first couple of nights, but has done great since. Call me if you want more specifics. :-)
ReplyDeleteNot sleeping is the hardest thing! I have no advice for you, but to say that it WILL get better and easier, just hang in there.
ReplyDeleteOh, Rebekah ( we love her name) is adorable in her little pig tails! And it looks like you did a wonderful job at bath time! Bedtime DOES get easier....but be good to yourself and get naps when you can until the transition has evened out! Another wonderul miracle to have Hyrum sooner than you thought! I'm so excited for your lovely family!
ReplyDeleteDon't you think that even with the not sleeping through the night it's wonderful to be with those kids. I just keep telling myself this as well. (Sometimes being a mom is HARD!!!) You need someone to come over and take some really cute pictures of you where you know when the camera is going to take the picture, because you are SOOOO pretty, and these pictures don't capture your beauty or your joy.
ReplyDeleteBath time is the best. I always like to roll my pants up and get a good foot soak in when I bathe little ones. And we love bath toys at our house.
Woohoo for getting your baby soon. It will be so cool to have all three.
i love reading your narrative on life. Makes me soooo happy for you! Congrats again!
Awww, it's like having a new baby in the house with all the sleep deprivation! I hope that gets better soon. Why on earth can they sleep with the foster parents and not you? I think that's really weirdo that they can sleep in bed with their foster parents anyway.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope everything goes well at the trial and whatever. I don't really understand how all that stuff works, but I hope it works in your favor whatever the case!
So sweet. Glad to see the kids are feeling comfy being normal little rascals. The shot of climbing over the gate is classic. Oh the joys of parenthood. Sorry you had a rough night, I want to take a nap for you! They seem to be adjusting SO well. I am VEYY excited about the baby. Let's figure out what he has in terms of cloths and stuff and see if another shower is in the near future!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful news about baby Hyrum! We will keep you in our prayers. I hope everything turns out well at the hearings.
ReplyDeleteJessica - this is Angela Dodds. I'm the above Holly's sister, remember me?! When Holly told me about your adoption I had to come check it out on your blog. I'm so excited for you and I must admit there has been more than one teary moment as I have read about and seen pictures of your new little ones. Congratulations! Good luck in all the challenges and joys to come.
